Lee County High School wins another game against Apex High School. They head off to Wilmington this week for the regional finals. Best of luck to LCHS!

It has been a while since I’ve posted anything related to sports. Mainly due to a streak of unimpressive, boring shots, but I liked this one. More importantly it’s in focus. Lee County High School won this game against Broughton High School in Raleigh and on Tuesday they make their way to Apex for the State High School Playoffs which will probably be the last game of theirs I cover for The Herald.

while it was incredibly hot last saturday i enjoyed what little time i spent at the crank-up.

well maybe not the dog on the bottom. he didn’t want any part in the dog diving competition last saturday at old gilliam mill park in sanford. i wanted to stay longer on this assignment but a pottery festival and softball game kept me running around sanford for the better part of the day.

in college our photojournalism instructor had rules about things he never wanted us to photograph. i think partly because he was tired of seeing the same things over and over again. among the many things like goats and guys with guitars there was also a rule about photographing dogs. we just couldn’t turn in any photo with a dog. every time i get a dog assignment i think back to when in school i was struggling to find something to turn in for our weekly critique. i had nothing. however i did have a photo of a dog. i remember that sudden and disappointing look of “are you kidding me?” along with a laugh from my instructor. good times.

it was “week of the young child” last week and so basically i got a chance to hang around extremely adorable kids and get photos as they played water games outside. such a tough job…

yesterday i covered the pinelake health & rehabilitation shooting memorial for the victims and heroes. these two are sisters and their mother was a victim of the shooting last year.

covering things like this is necessary and uncomfortable for me. i can’t imagine how i would react if someone was photographing me on such a horrible occasion.

last thursday pittsboro’s courthouse caught fire. this image is from friday while the building was still burning. i wasn’t able to make it to the fire when it broke on thursday due to another assignment at the time. i had no idea how big of a fire it had turned out to be. truly a sad day for this small and lovely community.

last week i had a couple of “girly” assignments. one as you can see in a previous post was looking for a prom dress and this one is from an assignment where girls at southern lee high school created an etiquette club called southern belles. they went to belks to learn about proper skin care. i learned a thing or two as well…
